Cindy Stokes’ Close to Home project featured at Marin Art and Garden Center

Cindy Stokes is featured in the three-person exhibition Confluence: Reflections on Our Shifting Environment at The Studio at Marin Art and Garden Center, Ross, CA. Through innovative techniques in photography, sculpture, drawing and painting, the artists Stokes, Laura Corallo-Titus and Arminee Chahbazian bring awareness to our evolving perceptions of a transforming environment.

Stokes’ Close to Home project—a site-specific installation and wall sculpture created from sculptural photographs and charcoal drawing—urges one to contemplate the ever-growing threat of wildfire while still acknowledging our dependence on and enjoyment of fire’s domesticated form.

Rusty Weston’s entry selected and awarded first prize in Roma Fotographia Exhibition

Rusty Weston is one of 40 photographers selected to participate in a group exhibition at a Rome gallery in June.  Roma Fotografia selected an image called “The Mission” for a group show at the Bresciani Visual Art Gallery (in Rome) in early June. The jurors awarded the image 1st prize with the promise of a solo exhibition “spread in the galleries, shops, and businesses of Via Giulia” in September/October.

The judges said of the image: “It is innovative, it recalls the web, the graphic dynamics of youth, red and then that lost but not anxious look of those who surf in the dark but with courage.”

The Mission is from Rusty’s new series Reenvisioning featuring portraits of young adults at night in San Francisco.

Ari Salomon at Arc Gallery’s Face to Face Exhibition

Ari Salomon has an image selected for inclusion in the Face to Face On-Line Gallery at Arc Gallery.

Ari writes, “This bright orange photo was taken in my neighborhood and depicts part of a construction barrier on a sidewalk. Like all the images in my Interface series, your brain will easily find a face in this object. This is part of my larger investigation into how photography can depict the invisible aspects of human perception.”

His image will be on view on a monitor in the gallery and in both the printed catalog and online.
